Women Build is back this year with a hybrid of in-person service and virtual fundraising! On Tuesday, September 7th, five female VIPs will gather at 8am to raise the walls at 702 Myrtle Street in Graham and kick-off Habitat’s Women Build 2021. This year’s house will be going to an all-female family: Cortney Jones and her two daughters. Our goals for the event are to build the house, fund the house, empower women, and raise awareness of the need for affordable housing.
Those serving on September 7th are: Pam Fox, CEO of Twin Lakes Community; Erin Cockman, Certified Financial Planner, Founder and CEO of Milestone Wealth Management; Michelle Langdon, Legal Team at Labcorp in Burlington; Connie Wolfe, Vice President of Instruction and Chief Academic Officer at Alamance Community College; and, Kathie Niven, CEO of Biscuitville.

Following their build shift, the VIPs will enjoy a lunch provided by Michelle’s Kitchen as they hear about the Habitat program from Ms. Jones and Habitat staff. More women will continue building with Ms. Jones throughout the month of September. Event sponsors Cone Health-ARMC and Twin Lakes Community will each send teams of volunteers to join the 8 other teams of volunteers who are also raising funds. In all, 100 women are expected to participate. The Women Build program is part of a nationwide effort by Habitat affiliates to challenge women from all walks of life to eliminate poverty housing in their community by building a house alongside a Habitat family.
There are limited volunteer slots open Sept. 8-11th and a few days left for teams to serve throughout the rest of September. Women interested in serving should check the website https://www.habitatalamance.org/women-build/ for more information and email swilliams@habitatalamance.org to register.
