Women Build 2020
Our 2020 Women Build program is under construction due to the pandemic! We are taking it VIRTUAL so watch for details to come soon on how YOU can participate!!
In the meantime, Women Build program is not about excluding men; it’s about including women and challenging them to help eliminate poverty housing in our community by providing a female-friendly work site that empowers women to take leadership roles and learn new skills.
Our goal for this event is threefold: Raise money to build the house, empower women, and raise awareness of the need for affordable housing.
Why? The need for affordable housing has never been greater. There are more than 17,000 households in Alamance County making less than $25,000 a year. Most of these families would not qualify for a mortgage on the traditional lending market. Habitat for Humanity is one of few options available to lower income working families in this county. Everyone deserves a decent place to live.
Owning a Habitat house means a family leaves poverty behind and begins to build wealth as a property owner. Studies show that home ownership brings reduced public assistance, educational achievement, and health benefits for the whole family. In addition, the community gains a new taxpayer who is invested in maintenance of their property and who participates in local government.
